Rundown (7/14-7/20) Natalie and the Computer-Generated Flowcharts

It has recently come to my attention that TFGamesSite member nexoq developed a computer-generated flowchart maker known as Graphify that can take .rpy files for Student Transfer Scenarios and create a functional flowchart using them.  This is a far cry from needing to dig through the .rpy file oneself and playing the game to test for any and all possible path permutations, and it’s something that I will be using in the future to double check my work.  But I’m still going to make my usual hand-made Draw.io flowcharts since they look a lot nicer, are more space efficient, and have a more unified format. I mean, just compare the header image to this flowchart I made for the same Student Transfer Scenario.  But this is still quite amazing.  Thank you nexoq!

With seemingly no rhyme or reason, Sega announced Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD.  Yes, a remaster of the Wii launch title of the series that they revealed with a nondescript cutscene trailer and a couple of screenshots.  Why they chose to do this over an HD remaster of Super Monkey Ball Deluxe, a compilation of the first two games (the only highly praised entries in the series) is beyond me, but I’m going to guess it is due to lost source code or some such thing.  I mean, I remember really liking the second game, so I would have been willing to pick up an updated version of the title, but I guess that was not meant to be. Regardless though, Banana Blitz HD will launch on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch on October 29th, the perfect time to re-release a niche game like this, with a PC port scheduled later on

Though, that is not the only re-release scheduled for this fall as, in one of the most unusual and low key announcements I can think of, Level-5’s VTuber character announced in a follow-up video to the reveal of the Nintendo Switch Lite that Yo-kai Watch 1 will be brought to the Nintendo Switch, having previously been released as a 3DS title in 2013.  This port will be launching alongside the Ni No Kuni Switch port, and the Switch Lite all on September 20th.  Well, Yo-kai Watch 1 is coming out in Japan on that day.  No word has been given about a North American announcement, but considering how the biggest reason why the series never really took off in the west can be attributed to its gameplay, at least that’s what I think, I doubt it would make many waves unless they re-do the combat system into something more active.  7/28/2019 Edit: Yeah, turns out Siliconera was wrong here. Yo-kai Watch 1 for Nintendo Switch is  due out on October 10th, and will also be a full on HD remaster from the look of it.

Actually, on the subject of new Switch models, Nintendo recently, in a very low-key reveal, stated that the original Switch model will be undergoing hardware revisions, with an updated model coming out this September that will boast 2 to 2.5 additional hours of battery life.  According to Nintendo, the difference between these models from the offset will be different packaging, and a different serial number format.  With the older versions having serial numbers beginning with XAW and a photo background on the box, and the newer revision boasting serial numbers beginning with XKW with a plain red background on the box.  Or in other words… Nintendo is still bad at selling and marketing revised hardware, and wants everybody to buy everything everytime they see something different. Remember kids, the Lite is not a simple revision, being a cheaper alternative with gutted features.  So it is less of a DS Lite and more like a Wii Mini. The actual revision just boasts superior battery life, and maybe a modest increase in GPU performance according to dataminers, but has no official name.  It’s so simple!

Next item on the agenda is the fact that, after being announced back in 2015, Vanillaware’s latest title, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, finally has a release date in Japan, where it will debut on November 28th.  The game continues to look a bit enticing, being a gob-smackingly beautiful adventure game that occasionally becomes a strategic robot versus kaiju battle scenes, and has a seemingly vast quantity of lore, so it may take a hot minute before it comes over to the west.  Here’s hoping that it gets the full Atlus treatment, and that after Vanillaware wraps up production on this game, they start looking into the PC platform more, like they said they would several years ago.  Yes, I remember these things, mostly because I want everything on PC like the greedy little turkey I am.

Anything else to discuss?  Well, this past week the second worst massacre in post-war Japan, where some deplorable individual decided to start a fire in Kyoto Animation’s Studio 1 building and cover people in gasoline, killing 33 and hospitalizing 35… but that is not the sort of thing I like to discuss on this site, where the only mass murdering referenced is the fictitious kind.

  1. It’s good to hear that you’ll continue to make your flowcharts, I personally find them much better to look at compared to the generated ones.

    • Even if they did look nicer, I would still make my own flowcharts. After doing this for 5 years I have stated to appreciate the puzzle that mapping each route or Scenario represents, even if some of them can be a tad frustrating to describe visually.
