Rundown (6/10) E3 2018: Consumption Makes the Heart Grow Fuller

As is customary with celebrating an event such as this, it is important to acknowledge the futility of this event.  E3 is effectively one big commercial designed to hype up consumers in order to spur discussion and news about games, in order to help maximize potential revenue, in order to allow major AAA studios to continue existing.  It is very easy to view this whole affair cynically, pointing out the downsides of high expectations and how gaming is arguably most enjoyable when ignoring industry nonsense. But I cannot help but love the act of fervorous consumption all the same, as it is a very filling and pleasing experience that still serves as a good excuse to become excited in a world that… I’d rather not talk about right now.  Time for video games!

Rundown (6/11) E3 2017: Return of the Busiest Time in My Life

E3 has begun, and thankfully the duties have been spread apart this year, with the previously mostly vacant Sundays are now being used by two major press conferences.  Meaning that I only have three more to go after pushing out this post right at the cusp of midnight because Bethesda thinks it is good to have a press conference at 9 PM PST.  Also, the title of this post is not a lie.  I do more work per day during the Monday and Tuesday of E3 than I do during any other time during the year.  Especially this year, as I have to work and attend class while E3 is going on.  Anyways, on with the rundown. Rundown (8/02-8/08) I Would Like Some Friends…

0 Watamote The Unwanted Hug of friendhsip via mascot manSo, Comiket 88 was held in Japan this week, the week of Gamescom, and it naturally had a very spiffy showcase of Doujin games, some very meh looking, others on par with content the lower to mid tier Japanese developers put out.  However, I will not be able to play most of them because the world is still greatly divided by languages, when this shit should have been figured out years ago.  I’m not saying that English should be the default for the world, as English is a pretty poor language in my book, but I feel that everybody in a developed part of the world should be able to speak a global language as a second language, while most media would be produced in that language to maximize the audience size, and slowly weed out old languages.  Now, some people say that a wide variety of languages helps encourage differences in the world and allow people to think differently.  I say that while there may be some truth there, some things need to be sacrificed in order for the world to progress and become more understanding.  I mean, it could actually help global understanding of others quite a bit if you design the language properly and based on the pros and cons of other languages. Rundown (6/07-6/13) PRE3 2015: A Leaky Prelude to Devastation

0 E3 2015Steam Summer Sales started serenely and sadly my selection of specific software ‘s selling-price stayed- screw this shaz.  I keep a list of reservation prices I keep for certain games, which I adhere to well, and there were not a ton of games whose selling price dropped beneath the reservation price.  So far I got Metro Redux and Epic Fantasy Battle 4 because I have some nostalgia for mid-ots Newgrounds.  I will get Momodora III, Dysfunctional Systems: Learning to Manage Chaos, and DreadOut as the sale ends, but will wait to see if there are any dailies.  I set myself a limit of $100 to spend, which is harder because I need to now pay taxes on Steam purchases… Continue reading

Rundown (6/09-6/10) E3 2014: Goodbye Despair, Hello Eighth Generation(?)

Fuck E3

It is rather pointless for a little slice of nowhere blog with only a small number of views to do a summarization of the E3 press events, especially when they were not watching them live due to real life events, such as work. But I got home to catch the latter two, and catch up with the former before Nintendo did their event and managed to get everything done before Tuesday’s end… well after everybody and their brother did their own version of this, and often far better than my assorted ramblings that are made all the dumber by the insertion of anime screencaps. It’s Nigmabox’s third annual Super E3 Rundown!
